God uses us in spite of us, not because of us

If I have learned one lesson so far during my time in Mexico, it is humility. More specifically, that it is a priviledge to serve Christ, because he doesn´t need us, he chooses to use us. I thought I had a decent grasp on Spanish when I came down here, but I quickly learned I have a lot to learn. It has been so frustrating at times, not being able to communicate what I am thinking, or express what I want to tell others about myself or about God. But when I slowed down and laid my frustrations before the Lord, I heard God´s gentle voice reminding me, that it is not about me!

God chooses to use his children to carry out and share his love. He could do it perfectly and far better than any of his children, but he allows his children to partake in the joy of spreading his love. And it has been so humbling serving here, because God could have used someone who actually knows how to speak Spanish, who knows the culture, and who could minister far more effectively, but he chose me to serve here this summer. And he chooses each of his children to do his work. We truly do have the treasure of the Gospel in our feeble bodies, or as Paul said, in jars of clary. What a humbling and joyful thought! The God of this universe allows us to serve him!

6For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ 7But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us

Heading to Mexico City!

Whenever you embark on a new journey, step into uncharted waters, or step out of your comfort zone, a lot can go through your mind. Doubt, worries, and fear are the often the most common feelings, even among Christians. And as I head to Mexico city, I must admit that amidst my excitement and anticipation that has been growing since I was accepted into the Spearhead program, I do have a bit of nervousness and fear about the unknown. Yet why do we worry and doubt as Christians?

If we truly believe in God's faithfulness, love, and power, and more importantly, the promises revealed in his Word, then we have nothing to fear. And when I stop and think about it, I think this is the way God wants us to live. He wants us to be clinging to him, depending on him, and trusting him in all areas of our life. If we live our whole life in safety and comfort, and never take any risks for God, we will be missing so much. I think the reason so many Christians in America complain that church is boring, their faith is boring, ect. is because they never take any risks for God. They go to church, have their 5 minute devotions in the morning, and try to live a "good" life. But the Christian life, I am finding, can be so much more exciting, fulfilling, and rewarding if you are willing to step out in faith, take risks for God, and live a radical life for Christ.

Jesus never said it would be easy, but he said he would be with us the whole way! If you find that your walk with God is boring, perhaps you need to re-evaluate your priorities and who you are living your life for...

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Mathew 16:25
